These are some photos taken in Hangzhou, in Zhejiang province,
during my trip to China during June 2002.

A small pond and bridge at Nine Creeks, southwest of the city. There
is a waterfall behind the bridge, which you can't see because of the
trees. 在久溪烟树。 桥后面有瀑布。

I am standing in a bicycle parking lot in Hangzhou. It's hard to get
used to parking lots containing as many bicycles as our parking lots
contain cars in the US. Too bad we don't use bicycles so much in the
US though.

Li Min and I at Yu Huang Shan. This wall has a narrow ledge you can
stand on, and it's supposed to be good luck if you can walk all the
way across. The problem is, the wall leans outward, making it
essentially impossible to do it. Small children can do it, however,
since they are shorter and so the wall doesn't force them to lean out
so far. 李敏和我在玉皇山的“紫气东来”墙。

You can see West Lake off in the distance, from the top of Yu Huang
Shan. I prefer to see it from a distance, since West Lake is somewhat
crowded. 在玉皇山上面,往西湖看。

One day, a bunch of girls were dancing in front of the Hangzhou Bai2
Huo4 department store, to advertise some kind of orange drink. It was
about 37 degrees that day (98 degrees Farenheit), and unbelievably
humid; I don't know how they had the energy to dance. It was fun to
watch, though.

On the stone steps, climbing Yu Huang Shan. As you can see, there
aren't many people around. The nice scenery and lack of crowds makes it
one of my favorite places. 我爬玉皇山。 那边的人很少。
