Assistant Professor of Mathematics Education

The Department of Mathematics & Statistics invites applications for a tenure-track position in Mathematics Education at the Assistant Professor level starting September 1, 2008. This is a re-advertisement originally posted in September 2008 to reflect changes in qualifications.

Candidates must have an earned doctorate with emphasis in mathematics education. Candidates should exhibit a strong commitment to teaching and solid education research potential. Responsibilities include undergraduate teaching in content courses for future teachers (elementary, middle, and high school), teaching graduate courses in mathematics education research, directing undergraduate and/or graduate research, and the establishment of an independent research program in mathematics education.

The University of Maine is the primary graduate institution of the State of Maine. The Department offers BA and MA degrees in mathematics and statistics, is in the process of developing a Ph.D. program in mathematics/statistics, and provides research advising for the Master of Science in Teaching. The Department has strong connections with the College of Education and the Center for Science and Mathematics Education Research. The department's web site can be visited at www.math.umaine.edu

The University of Maine is located one hour from the beautiful Bar Harbor area and Acadia National Park, and approximately the same distance to skiing and remote hiking areas. The area provides a pleasant, safe, and affordable living environment. Extensive cultural activities are available at the Maine Center for the Arts and the greater Bangor area
